HTML Email Guide - anandgraves.com

There's a pretty good guide here about how to create a well-structure HTML email.

The only thing that I would disagree on is getting rid of the <head> and <body> tags in your HTML email - I would suggest especially making sure these tags are in your HTML email messages - a complete HTML document is something that mail filters, like SpamAssassin looks for. Of course, Dada Mail automatically corrects this problem, if you submit an HTML document without them, for ya.

Good Article: Running a customer mailing list

There's a great article over at atomicbird (a Mac OS X software company) entitled, Running a customer mailing list. It hits on some pretty good points, including: Don't Be Evil (Don't spam, only email someone after getting their permission, do not checkoff that a person wants to subscribe on a html form, etc) and also mentions Dada Mail as a good solution, as well as goes through another Mailing List Manager: Mailman. Worth a read and we thank them for the mention of Dada Mail

Dada Mail 2.10.16 Released

I'm very happy to announce the immediate availability of Dada Mail, version 2.10.16. This version contains bug fixes found in version 2.10.15.

This release is purely a bug fix release, so no new features, just more rock-solid stability.

Please note that we've made more differences between Basic Dada Mail and Pro Dada. The above page notes all the changes between the two different distributions. If you're upgrading a Basic Dada Mail installation, you may want to make sure Dada Mail still supports the size and amount of lists you currently have.

Purchases of Pro Dada keep the Dada Mail project continuing strong. If you use Dada Mail in a commercial environment, consider purchasing Pro Dada. It's the main way Dada Mail is kept alive.

Hey Everyone!

Just to let everyone know, I've returned safely from my 2,350 mile (3,782 kilometer) bicycling touring trip from Vancouver, BC Canada to the US/Mexico Border, just south of San Diego, CA.

It was an incredible experience and I'm glad I went on the trip, but it's also so very nice to be back home. Here's me, looking tough somewhere in Northern California:

Dada Mail Subscriptions Community Builder Plug-In for the Joomla Content Management System Released!

I have finally finished v1.0 of the Dada Mail Subscriptions Community Builder Plug-In for the Joomla Content Management System. You can download the plug-in from my website here. The extension has also been submitted to the Joomla Community Extensions website and is pending approval there.

Note that this is the first of two Joomla extensions I plan to write this year. The next one will be a component that allows the Dada Mail archives to be browsed within a Joomla website.

My purpose in writing these extensions is to provide integrated email lists to a closed community (HOA) website. Since Dada Mail allows its lists to be completely closed (no public access), it works well within a website like this one.

It's a simple start, but it's working quite nicely for our HOA site. Thanks Justin for providing tech support and encouragement to get me going on this little project.

New Features

$MAILOUT_AT_ONCE_LIMIT

This variable sets how many different mailouts may go out from an installation of Dada Mail at one time. Conservatively, this is set to, 1 by default.

There are a few reasons why you wouldn't want to set this to any higher limit, one being that there's a possibility that there is a limit on how many email messages you are allowed to go out in a specific period of time.

Another reason is that sending out too many messages at once may cause the server your running to be overloaded.

$MAILOUT_STALE_AFTER

$MAILOUT_STALE_AFTER sets, in seconds, how long a mailout can go with no mailing activity until Dada Mail itself won't automatically restart it. The default, 86400 seconds is one full day.

This variable attempts to safegaurd you against having a dropped mailing that you've, ``forgotten'' about restart, ``mysteriously'' and unintentionally.

A mailout may still be restarted if this limit has been surpassed, but it must be done manually, through the list control panel.

Sending Monitor Index Refreshes Every 60 seconds

This should allow you to keep tags on all your mailings for a list at once, without having to visit each individual screen.

This screen will also reload a mailing, if necessary (just like the individual screens)

Pause a Mailing

You now have the ability to pause a mailing, instead of simple stopping a mailing. A stopped mailing cannot ever be restarted, a paused mailing may be restarted with ease

Mailout Queueing Support

WIth the Mailout At Once Limit, Dada Mail now supports queueing of awaiting mailouts.

Dada Mail 2.10.14 Beta 1 Released

I just released a new development version of Dada Mail - it's a bugfix-only release, so no new features, but plenty of bugs squashed. It needs verfication, so if you're experiencing any of the bugs listed below, give the beta version a try and see if the problem has been fixed!
